As scientists debate whether global warming is affecting Earth, reports the Associated Press, "climate witnesses" told a U.N. environmental conference Friday they are already feeling the heat of the changing weather patterns they say are drastically affecting the way of life from the Himalayas to the South Pacific.
Are you kidding me?
If there were ever any doubt that Climate Change—capitals intended—were a political issue, rather than a scientific one, this one little news story should put them to bed.
What's next? Why don't we invite water dowsers to geology conferences? Televangelists could address the AMA. Perhaps IEEE might feature the Heaven's Gate "Away Team" at their next aerospace symposium!
Here's something for Khofi Anan to take to the bank along with his Oil-for-Food chump change: anecdote is anathema to science. Anecdote is a weapon used by politicians to carry a point whose science can no longer withstand serious inquiry. Witnesses testify; scientists demonstrate. Testimony serves only to muddy the waters surrounding scientific issues, whether it happens before the U.S. Congress or the United Nations.
I am bitterly disappointed in every educated supporter of this charade who allowed petty politics to trump scientific integrity. There are many opinions regarding the truth and significance of the Climate Change question... but there is only a single underlying reality, and the U.N.'s science lackeys have just struck another resounding blow in service of its utter obfuscation.
