The $9 Retraction

Well, you have to hand it to Torgerson: when he's right, he's right.

This historic occasion was prompted by my last post, in which I commented on a hard-to-trace newspaper clipping that floated up out of the swamp that is the pile on my desk. As Torgerson pointed out—rather gleefully, I note—the clipping was way older than I suspected, and thus my long-winded afterthought on intellectual honesty was completely unfounded.

In this case.

So, to the good Dr. Bush, author of the economic paper that was the topic of my clipping, and to Dennis Rodkin, who wrote my clipping: my apologies. And many thanks to Torgerson for a well-deserved spanking.

Now that we have the mea culpas out of the way, I can't help but notice that Torgerson seems to have slipped away without addressing Dr. Bush's economic theories. Can't say that I blame him there.

You had said: "I can't help but notice that Torgerson seems to have slipped away without addressing Dr. Bush's economic theories. Can't say that I blame him there."

No you certainly can't, since you had not raised any such. You had admitted that "I'd like to read and digest this report so that I can respond in depth..." and that you would "have more to say in the topic in a few days."

Meanwhile in your post the only theories you put forth were your own: "Now, I have a theory: government subsidies, in the form of minimum wage laws and political support for trade unions as well as direct subsidies for low-income renters, are responsible for this $90,000 “mismatch.”"

Since the form of those subsidies mentioned have little or nothing to do with the proposals that actually are contained in Dr. Bush's paper (which I _have_ read BTW), we in the audience are no doubt anxiously awaiting your "in depth" commentary, especially since the comments made thus far indicate you are completely out of your depth.

Hope your health insurance business is prospering,

Kind Regards,
Richard
